Computer games, movies, books, comics, you name it, no matter how authors and screen writers imagine the future of our human race, people are still being people, lying, hurting, stealing, abusing, betraying, fighting, manipulating, and murdering one another hundreds of years into the future. The best our imaginings can offer hope for is that perhaps those people with evil desires have been limited and controlled down to a very few anomalies in a good majority. And yet, those stories often wind up taking a dystopian turn with the end message that such taming of humanity is an undesirable purge of the passions and desires and liberties that make humanity rich and vibrant and beautiful. The point is that the human race is so fallen that we can’t even imagine what our civilization would be without our sins. We are so conditioned to the struggle that we have literally written into the definition of good narrative the need for an evil person or event to generate conflict. We are so broken, we can’t even come up with an imaginary fix to our problem no matter how much time we pretend our race might have to get it right! But take comfort Christian! The world will not go on forever in this broken state. The end is nearer now than it was when you first believed. One day soon, Christ will return…. But what will he find when he arrives? How are you going to use the time you have left?
