As we consider what it is to be wise – to be skillful in life – versus what it is to be foolish, Proverbs uses over 80 verses to make clear that those who pursue what God says is right are wise, are pursuing the essential skill in life. In contrast, those who turn towards evil, towards wickedness, towards deception and all that is wrong according to God – these are the foolish who will reap the evil they themselves have sown. Those who walk in righteousness by faith can confidently expect God’s favor, whereas the wicked rightly fear being found out and judged by God.
