As much as you or I might sometimes want to walk back what we have been “Just saying,” the fact of the matter is, our words are never just so much noise without effect on the world. What we say has an impact. By what we say, we change the course of lives, we make things happen for good or ill. The words uttered from your mouth are the tools in your hands to build or knock down a wall, to construct a reality that did not previously exist. Words have impact on our lives and the lives of those around us. We never “just say” anything. The things we say have both effect and intent. Proverbs has much to say on the subject of what you or I say. What you say, to whom you say it, and even when and how you say it – these are all integral to the skillful life. Today we examine two of several Proverbs principles regarding the tongue.
